Am I Pregnant?
For some women, it may seem obvious they’re pregnant, but for others, they may experience few or no symptoms at all. If you’ve had sexual intercourse and are wondering whether you’re pregnant, you can find out with a simple test. Taking a pregnancy test is your best bet, and you’ll also want to review any symptoms you have.
Common Pregnancy Symptoms
Experiencing any of the symptoms below, including a missed period, doesn’t necessarily mean you’re pregnant. Sometimes, they can be attributed to stress, weight changes, or other health conditions. It’s important, however, to recognize common pregnancy symptoms:
- Missed period
- Tender, swollen breasts
- Increased urination
- Fatigue
- Nausea with or without vomiting
- Constipation
- Cramping
- Food aversions
- Nasal congestion
- Moodiness
- Bloating
Testing For Pregnancy
Using an at-home testing kit is a good option to learn whether you may be pregnant. These tests detect the presence of hCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, in your urine. This hormone is only present in your body during pregnancy. It’s best to take the test several days after a missed period or a few weeks after sexual intercourse to allow time for hCG in your body to build to detectable levels.
Taking the test first thing in the morning is ideal, as this is when your urine is most concentrated. Sometimes, you may receive a false result. This usually happens if you take the test too early or incorrectly, so it’s best to follow the instructions carefully and take the test again if you’re concerned the result is inaccurate.
